Will Crosby beat Lemieux's Penguins scoring mark?

Will Crosby beat Lemieux’s team scoring record?

Oh what could’ve been had Crosby not had those concussions early in his career. I personally predicted he would hit the 2,000 point plateau after only watching him play for a few years. Injuries to his head, and other ailments have robbed him of hundreds of games. Now, I must say his career has still been an immense success.

3 Time Stanley Cup Champion

2 Time Olympic Gold Medalist

2 Time Art Ross Trophy Winner

2 Time Hart Trophy Winner

2 Time Conn Smythe Trophy winner

Those are just a small taste of his amazing and storied career. Love him or hate him, he is a first ballot Hall of Famer. Now we get to the point of this article, will Crosby beat Mario Lemieux’s Penguins career scoring record? Lemieux finished his career with 1723 points. As of writing this, Crosby has 1367 points and is on pace to finish the year at 1397 points. That will leave him 326 points behind Super Mario.

A few things will determine if he can indeed pass him in career points. First off, how much longer will Crosby play? He will turn 35 after the season is over. That is for sure getting up there in age for an NHLER, but as we have seen, you can play into your late 30’s and early 40’s and still be effective. Secondly, can he stay healthy? He has missed time this year, and we all know his injury history. This might be the one that decides it all, the head and body is nothing to be messed with. He might just decide to hang it up when his body can no longer take it, and who knows when they will be. Lastly, can he can continue to produce points? He is a very effective two way player, so he can have an impact on a game even if he isn’t scoring points.

What do I think?

I believe he is going to play until he is 40 and end up passing Mario and getting that record. I was born 10 days before him, and always have been a fan of his skills and work ethic. I hope he stays healthy and I really hope he can snag that record. Also, he is currently at 499 goals, so by the time you read this, he might be in the 500 goal club.
